Post & Page layouts

Define the default post image layout in theme settings, choose whether post and page content is left-aligned or centered, and use individual templates only when a post or page needs its own layout variant or table of contents.

Left & center content layout
  1. Go to the 'Design & branding' settings in the Ghost Admin.
  2. Open the 'Theme' tab and go to the 'Post' section, then find the 'Left content layout' position.
  3. Choose an option from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click 'Save' to activate.
Tip: What are the differences between content layout options?

Post and page – uses the left-aligned content layout for both posts and pages.

Post only – uses the left-aligned content layout for posts, while pages keep the centered layout.

Page only – uses the left-aligned content layout for pages, while posts keep the centered layout.

None – keeps the centered content layout for both posts and pages.

Default post image layout
  1. Go to the 'Design & branding' settings in the Ghost Admin.

  3. Choose 'Split' or 'Full' from the dropdown menu.
  4. Click 'Save' to activate.
Tip: What are the differences between post image layout options?

Split – uses a split post header with the featured image beside the title area.

Full – places the featured image in a wider full header layout.

Individual templates
  1. Open the post or page settings panel from the icon in the top-right corner.
  2. At the bottom of the panel, open the 'Template' dropdown menu.
  3. Select a template available for that content type, for example 'Template (Post) Full with TOC' for posts or 'Template TOC' for pages.
  4. Close the panel and click 'Update' to activate.
Tip: What are the differences between template options?

Template (Post) Split – a post template that overrides the default post image layout and uses the Split layout.

Template (Post) Full – a post template that overrides the default post image layout and uses the Full layout.

Template TOC – available for posts and pages; adds a table of contents generated from h2 headings without changing the current layout.

'Template (Post) Split with TOC' and 'Template (Post) Full with TOC' – post templates that override the default post image layout and add the table of contents.
