Paths

Create guided reading paths by connecting posts with an internal path tag and publishing a Path page that introduces the sequence. Paths are designed for courses, series, essays, or editorial collections that should be read in a clear order.

1. Go to the 'Tags' settings in the Ghost Admin.
2. Click 'New tag' and create an internal tag by starting the tag name with #, for example #Journey.
3. Edit the tag slug so it starts with hash-path-, for example hash-path-journey. Ghost may generate a regular internal slug first, so update it manually.
4. Add an optional description. The tag name is shown as the path title, and the description can appear in path areas.
5. Click 'Save'.

1. Open each post that should belong to the path.
2. Open the 'Post settings' panel from the icon in the top-right corner.
3. Add the internal path tag, for example #Journey.
4. Close the panel and click 'Update' to apply the tag.

A Path page is optional. The theme can already build paths from internal path tags and show them in the Paths panel, but a dedicated page gives one path its own public archive and can be featured on the homepage.

The page title and optional description added with the custom excerpt are independent from the tag name and tag description, so you can repeat the same text or expand the description used for the path tag.

1. Create a new page, add a title, and open the 'Page settings' panel from the icon in the top-right corner.
2. Add the same internal path tag used by the posts, for example #Journey.
3. At the bottom of the panel, open the 'Template' dropdown menu.
4. Select the 'Path' template, then close the panel to apply the page template.
5. Click 'Publish' to go live.

By default, path posts are ordered from oldest to newest, which works well for courses, lessons, and reading sequences that should start at the beginning. Reverse path order shows newest posts first, which is useful for ongoing series, newsletters, updates, or any path where the latest part should be easiest to reach.

1. Go to the 'Design & branding' settings in the Ghost Admin.
2. Open the 'Theme' tab and go to the 'Site-wide' section, then find the 'Reverse path order' position.
3. Use the toggle switch to order path posts from newest to oldest instead of oldest to newest.
4. Click 'Save' to activate.
